Arnook- the tribal chief of the Northern Water Tribe, and the father of Princess Yue.
Bato- a member of the Southern Water Tribe and a close friend of Katara and Sokka's father, Hakoda.
Due- a Waterbender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe in the Earth Kingdom.
Una- Former Avatar
Hadoka- the father of Katara and Sokka, the husband of Kya, son of Kanna, and the leader of the Southern Water Tribe.
Hanh- a soldier from the Northern Water Tribe. He was Princess Yue's fiancé and, as Sokka puts it, a "self-absorbed weasel"
Hama- a Waterbender who was born in the Southern Water Tribe
Hiryu- one of the secondary character featured in the "Avatar: The Last Airbender (video game)".
Huu- a Waterbending master from the Foggy Swamp Tribe, located in the Earth Kingdom. Huu is able to bend the water inside plants and vines.
Kanna- also known as Gran Gran, is Katara and Sokka's caring grandmother on their father's side
Kinto- is a Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe.
Kuruk- The last Water Bender Avatar before Aang.
Kya- Katara and Sokka's mother and is the wife of Hakoda
Nini- a resident of the Southern Water Tribe and friend of Kya's around twenty-five years before the start of the series.
Pakku- the Waterbending master and instructor of the North Pole's Northern Water Tribe Class.
Sangok- an awkward teenager and one of Master Pakku's Waterbending students
Tho- lives in the Earth Kingdom's Foggy Swamp Tribe with his friends Due and Huu, as well as the rest of their tribe.
Ummi- was a girl who lived in the Southern Water Tribe.
Yue- was the sixteen-year-old daughter of Chief Arnook, ruler of the North Pole's Northern Water Tribe. She is one of Sokka's love interests during the series.
Yugoda- a female Waterbender of the Northern Water Tribe. She instructs young women of her city how to use their Waterbending skills for healing purposes.
Earth Kingdom
Toph Bei Fong- usually referred to as simply Toph, is an Earthbending master. Blind since birth, Toph was constantly looked down upon for her disability and her stature as an innocent little girl, especially by her over-protective parents
Suki- the eldest of the young female Kyoshi Warriors of the Earth Kingdom's Kyoshi Island. Having begun her training when she was only 8 years old, Suki is well respected by her fellow warriors and is their leader. When the Avatar and his friends arrive at Kyoshi Island, Suki and a few other Kyoshi Warriors captured them, later releasing and befriending them, forming a particular bond with Sokka
Jet- the teenage leader of a band of refugee Earth Kingdom children called the Freedom Fighters.
June- a bounty hunter who travels around the Earth Kingdom. She is a mercenary and has no allegiance to any nation, only the highest bidder for her services.
Kuei- The 52nd Earth King, born Kuei, was most recent the King of Ba Sing Se and last ruler of the Earth Kingdom before the Fire Nation occupation
The Fire Nation
Zuko- a skilled and powerful Firebender, born as a prince in the Fire Nation royal family. His story often paralleled that of the Avatar, Aang. Initially an antagonist, Zuko's life revolved around trying to capture the long-lost Avatar to end his banishment and to regain his honor as Crown Prince of the Fire Nation.
Azula- the princess of the Fire Nation, daughter of Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Ursa, and the younger sister and archenemy to Prince Zuko. She was a key enemy of Team Avatar, chasing Avatar Aang and her banished brother far across the Earth Kingdom accompanied her two best "friends" Mai and Ty Lee.
Iroh- a retired Fire Nation general, a former Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, a Grand Master (Lotus) of the Order of the White Lotus, a Firebending Master, and a mentor to his nephew, Prince Zuko. Iroh is the son of Fire Lord Azulon, and the older brother of Fire Lord Ozai. His prowess in Firebending has earned him the title The Dragon of the West
Ty Lee- a cheerful and energetic teenaged girl, hailing from the Fire Nation. The daughter of a nobleman, she attended the Royal Fire Academy for Girls with her long time friends, Princess Azula and Mai. As a child, she dealt with six sisters that shared an identical appearance to her, which caused a loss of individuality and a longing to be a distinct, recognizable person. Because of this, after she matured, she abandoned her home and joined the Fire Nation Circus, becoming a skilled acrobatic performer
Ozai- the tyrannical ruler of the Fire Nation, the father of Prince Zuko and Princess Azula, and the main antagonist of the Avatar series. Like every Fire Lord, Ozai was a Firebending Master, and prior to the ending of the series, is believed to have been the most powerful Firebender in The World of Avatar.
Mai- the daughter of the Governor of "New Ozai" Omashu and his oldest child. During the course of the series, she becomes one of Princess Azula's main sidekicks (thereby one of Team Avatar's greatest foes), as well as Prince Zuko's love interest. As most privileged girls in the Fire Nation, she attended the Royal Fire Academy for Girls and became a friend of Princess Azula and Ty Lee at a young age.
Roku- the incarnation of the Avatar immediately preceding Avatar Aang. He was born in the Fire Nation. Benign in spirit, Roku served as a guiding force for Aang throughout the series. Roku possesses an animal companion, a red dragon named Fang, which serves him in the same way as Appa does Aang
Ursa- the wife of Ozai, mother of Prince Zuko and Princess Azula, and granddaughter of Avatar Roku and Ta Min. She was a kind and gentle mother to her children, though Azula believed she favored Zuko
